A number of Teifi Valley Motor Club (TVMC) members took a break from their day jobs over the weekend to lend a helping hand at Wales Rally GB the UK round of the FIA World Rally Championship. Wales Rally GB, again supported by the Welsh Government, celebrated its 80th anniversary and commenced at Likes Land Rover at Walters Arena on Wednesday of last week.

Chairman of the TVMC Dyfan Davies was Wales Rally GB Stage Commander and has been involved with the Rally since 1998 as a TVMC member. And as thrilling as the event is, it is also a lot of hard work, as Dyfan explains.

' We set the stage and prepared it for the recce on Tuesday, then we run the stage and communciate with Cardiff throughout the event. If something goes wrong, it's up to us to deal with it. We sign the marshalls on and make sure everything is in order. I love the sport and that's why I do it. When I was younger I'd go and watch the RAC rally and I get a lot of pleasure out of doing it, but it is a lot of responsibiity and running here and there.'

The ceremonial start took place in Llandudno on Thursday 13th, before the event moved down to the classic Dyfnant, Hafren Sweet Lamb and Myherin tests after a remote service in Newtown. Saturday 15th took the rally to the stages of Crychan, Epynt and Halfway. The loop was repeated, following which the rally visited Celtic Manor for the first time, before service in Cardiff. For the final day, Wales Rally GB visited Port Talbot, Rheola and Likes Land Rover at Walters Arena, before returning to those stages again after Cardiff service. The official finish ceremony of the event took place in Cardiff Bay after the final stage.
